Summer Fun

August 5, 2007

Yesterday was a beautiful day. After a lovely breakfast outside at a baby shower for my sweet cousin, Amy, Illya and I attended a birthday party for Alex.

The shower gave me a chance to see some family that I don't get to visit often, and breakfast was very nice. I won a shower prize for remembering the most nursery rhymes. While I was at the shower, Illya had a few hours to himself, so he got some coffee and explored the downtown area. The shower ended at approximately 12 noon, and he had a quick visit with family. Then, we were off to a birthday party!

After a quick trip to the store for some party chips and soda and a quick trip to the toy store, we found ourselves with Drew, Heather and Alex at their house in Vancouver. We chatted with her mother, sister and neice that were visiting from Roseburg for the party. Drew BBQ' d some tasty chicken and we dined outside, took pictures, ate cake and watched Alex open the presents. And then, we all had a blast in a grand balloon fight. It was the Battle of the Sexes, and what a war it was! We...

Results of Dr's visit 7/30

July 31, 2007

Yesterday, I saw my fertility specialist, and we have officially taken the next step towards conception!

After showing my Dr the ovulation charts that I have recorded since the dye test, he agreed with me that there was something very wrong. I am not ovulating, and I need to be if I am going to become pregnant. Unfortunately, polycystic ovarian syndrome is alive and present in my body, and has a lot to do with me not releasing an egg.

I brought many concerns to my Dr, mostly about the opposition I feel from my family. From the folks that I have talked to (or who have talked to me), the general feeling is that I am too heavy to have a child, too large and heavy to carry a baby. It's not just one person. It's 3 members of my family, and it is quite discouraging. I confided in my Dr that I know that these family members just love me and are concerned for me, but they're not realizing how they are really making me feel, although I have told them. I asked my Dr point blank how he felt about my body weight and health condition, my efforts...

Illya's Blog about his Atlanta trip

July 14, 2007

I had a training seminar planned by my work. It was in Atlanta, Georgia. My flight was scheduled to leave Monday morning at 6:15, which meant that I had to be there at least by 4 am. So I stayed up all Sunday night and Allison got a few hours of sleep. Heather was going to take me down there (so we could leave our car at her house instead of paying for parking).

Things started off wrong from the get-go. The line for baggage drop off was huge. It seemed liked every person had some kind of issue. But I was finally able to get my luggage checked in and head down to security. Allison and I had a emotional goodbye as my carry-on and I were processed through security. Then I waited by my door. I had noticed that my tickets did not include a boarding pass. I kept trying to ask when I could get on and I got no answers, only "wait your turn". When it was time to board I had to wait until they had extra seating. I explained to the check-in people that my work, Fed Ex, bought these tickets in advance and...

Happy Fourth of July!

July 5, 2007

Hope everyone had a rockin' holiday. We sure did!

After sleeping and lounging in the morning, we got dressed and headed up to Vancouver to meet with Drew, Heather, and Alex. Once there, we just kicked our shoes off and relaxed. We sprayed Alex with the hose and snacked on chips and cherries, played a few games of Scattergories. Drew fired up the BBQ for some tasty turkey burgers, and a good time was had by all!

Once it began getting later, we headed out front to join the rest of the neighbors for fireworks. There were some that were pretty spectacular and I got a few neat pics on my phone. It was great to relax in the cool night and cast our eyes upward for the awesome display.

Hope everyone had a fun and safe Fourth of July!

Exciting news!

June 27, 2007

Hello to all of you!

I am very excited as I write this. I arrived home from the Dr's office just a few hours ago and have been on the phone with some pals that have wanted the news of our appointment today. I am adding it as a blog because it is a step of our journey and it's information for our faithful readers!

We met with our fertility specialist today and he is happy with my progress. We know that my tubes are clear and clean as a whistle, but we had many questions that were answered today. Here's everything in a nutshell!

The doctor is pleased. My blood pressure continues to be a struggle, but it is a work in progress. I have lost some weight over these past 6 months, which was a goal of his for me. And now that I am off my menopause meds (because they successfully cleared my tubes and I no longer need them), Illya and I can officially start to try for a baby. There is no need to wait any longer than I have after the dye test. The Dr has assured me that the medication is out of my system and...

Dye Test Results For Allison

June 21, 2007

What a day yesterday was! We were at the hospital all day. It could have been faster, but there were some difficulties. For one thing, my Dr's office hadn't scheduled the test and made all the arrangements that they should have with the hospital. How unnerving! So, we got there at 9 am and didn't actually have a chance to get my test til 3 pm.  We were a little stressed, but we made the best of it. We putzed around the hospital, got some lunch, and bopped around a nearby Target for a while. Then, it was time to head back for the moment of truth.

Illya didn't get to come in with me, and that was a little sad. I was also surprised that it wasn't my Dr doing the test. It was a Dr that I had never met. But, I took a deep breath and climbed up on that table. I knew it wouldn't be a cakewalk, but I had a hard time relaxing. The Dr needed to secure my cervix with a tool, insert a catheter, and feed dye through it into my fallopian tubes to take pictures and see if the dye passed. (My tubes...

Summer is about to begin, but baby...we're already there!

June 17, 2007

Well, it's Sunday. Trying to squeeze the last few drops of fun outta this weekend. We're in Vancouver with Drew, Heather, and Alex and the smoky sweet aroma of ribs are makin' me hungry! I'm likin' summer so far. Thankfully, it hasn't been real hot yet. Illya and I had a great day yesterday. Went to Borders to browse and scour the bargain tables for great deals (which we found!). Made it a date and ended up at Pasta Pronto for some amazing food.

It's Father's Day, but it just feels like a regular Sunday. We're just getting ready to sit down to ribs hot off the grill and enjoy the rest of our family day. Hope everyone had a great weekend like we did!
